Defoki Scout v.3.3 — a mobile video surveillance system for field use
Defoki Scout system allows you to quickly set up surveillance of an area using daylight and thermal imaging cameras connected to the operator by cable.
1. Pre-deployment inspection
Before deploying the system, check the following:
• The camera module, cable and monitor have no mechanical damage.
• The lenses of both the daylight and thermal imaging cameras are clean.
• All connectors can be connected securely.
• The power source is charged.
• The cable is long enough to position the camera at the required distance.
Important: Do not use the system if:
• The cable has severe damage, kinks or exposed wires.
• Any connectors are damaged.
• There is dirt, water or foreign matter inside the connectors.
2. Connecting the cable
Connect the cable to the monitor and to the camera module.
The cable connects to SP-13 connectors.
The cable end located on the reel and without camouflage covering must be connected to the monitor.
The other cable end, which has camouflage covering, must be connected to the camera module.
Before connecting, make sure the connectors are clean and undamaged, and that they can be inserted without excessive force.
3. Connecting the power supply
Defoki Scout can be powered by different sources through the following connectors:
● Type-C;● DC 2.1;● XT-60.
The system can be connected to:
• A power bank
• An FPV battery
• A 220 V mains supply via an adapter
The 220 V adapter is included depending on the package configuration. A 12–24 V power adapter is suitable for operation.
Important! The system operates with an input voltage of 5 V to 24.5 V and a current of up to 3 A.
Connecting a power source outside these parameters may prevent the system from starting or may damage it.
The system switches on automatically when power is connected.
After connecting the power supply, check that an image appears on the monitor. Switch the video signal between the cameras using the switch on the left side of the monitor housing, and check that both cameras operate correctly.
When switched on for the first time, the thermal imaging camera may take up to 2–3 seconds to start operating.
An external monitor can also be connected via the RCA output using the switch.
4. Installing the camera module
Measure the required distance for installing the camera module, taking the cable configuration into account.
Depending on the package configuration, the standard cable length may range from 25 to 200 metres.
Take the assembled system to the location where the camera module is to be installed.
Secure the camera module using the flexible tripod. It can be mounted:
• On the ground
• On a tree
• On a pole
• On part of a shelter
• On another stationary support
The tripod has pointed tips for mounting it in the ground.
If necessary, the tips can be removed by pulling them off with considerable force.
The tripod can also be completely detached from the camera module. To do this, unscrew the M6 bolt located on the underside of the camera module.
An M6 nut is built into the underside of the camera module, allowing it to be attached to other surfaces using an M6 bolt.
5. Aiming the cameras
Point the camera module in the required direction.
Check the image and adjust the position of the camera module if necessary.
Once the correct direction has been selected, firmly tighten the two fasteners on the tripod swivel mechanism to lock the camera module in position.
Make sure the camera module does not wobble and is securely fixed.
6. Routing the cable
After installing and aiming the camera module, disconnect the monitor without disconnecting the connector from the camera module. Unwind the cable from the reel to the location from which surveillance will be conducted.
Route the cable so that it:
• Is not under excessive tension.
• Is not bent at a sharp angle.
• Does not run under vehicle wheels.
• Does not pass through areas where it could be easily damaged.
• Is not visible, if required by the operating conditions.
7. Starting the system and configuration
Connect the monitor to the cable.
Connect the power supply to the system.
Make sure an image from the camera appears on the monitor.
Switch the video signal between the daylight and thermal imaging cameras using the switch on the left side of the monitor housing.
Check that both cameras are operating correctly.
After completing these checks, the system is ready for use.
Brightness, contrast, screen resolution and other display settings can be adjusted using the buttons on the monitor.
8. Shutting down
After completing surveillance:
• To switch off the system, disconnect the power cable.
• Disconnect the cable from the monitor and the camera module.
• Wind up the cable without creating sharp bends.
• Fold the system into its transport position.
Do not store wet equipment in a sealed bag for an extended period. If the system gets wet, it must be dried. The camera module itself is sealed.
